Braces use gentle pressure to encourage teeth to move along a prescribed path into a new alignment.

  1. First, a bracket is bonded to the tooth. The bracket is simply a handle that is used to attach an archwire.
  2. The archwire that is attached to the bracket is what actually does the work of moving your teeth. The wire is bent in a prescribed form designed to shift your teeth to where they need to be. The wire places pressure on the bracket and the tooth and causes the teeth to move.

The traditional way of tying a wire to a bracket creates tremendous friction between the brackets and wires. Dr. Dwight Damon created a new way to attach wires to brackets that allows the wire to slide freely, eliminating the friction.

With the Damon Comfort System, the traditional steel and rubber band ties have been eliminated, and a sliding mechanism ‘garage door’ assembly replaces the traditional handle on the front of the bracket. Wires can be secured to the bracket without the need for ties and their added friction and forces. These improvements make the Damon System brackets friction-free. The advantages of a friction-free system are ...

The low forces of the Damon System work in conjunction with the muscles of the face and tongue, bone and tissue to shift teeth. The low forces mean that discomfort is minimized and more types of cases can be treated..

Damon brackets are beneficial for many different types of patients. Adult patients benefit because of the faster treatment and increased comfort. Patients with periodontal (gum) problems can receive treatment because the lower friction of Damon brackets put less force on their gums.
